Male Breast Surgery (Gynaecomastia)
Gynecomastia, or enlarged male breasts, is typically treated with liposuction and glandular excision. In some cases, skin reduction may also be necessary. The procedure involves making a small incision for liposuction on the chest wall and a small incision beneath the areola for gland removal.
Gynaecomastia is most commonly observed during puberty and in older men due to natural hormone shifts. It can also be a result of other factors like obesity, medical conditions, certain medications, and even some genetic predisposition.
What happens during surgery?
An incision is made around the areola (dark area around the nipple) and remove excess fatty tissue. Liposuction may be used however if there is a large amount of fatty tissue other incisions may be necessary. Your nipples may need to be repositioned.
The surgery typically lasts between 1-2 hours, depending on the amount of tissue and fat to be removed. It can be performed under local or general anesthesia.
Aftercare and recovery
Recovery generally takes about 2 weeks, with chest soreness subsiding over time. Strenuous activity should be avoided for up to 1 month post-surgery. A compressive garment
