Mini Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
For some patients, a small amount of excess skin combined with noticeable muscle divarication (separation of the abdominal muscles) may require excision and repair but may not warrant a full abdominoplasty. In these cases, a mini abdominoplasty can be a more suitable option.
Unlike a full abdominoplasty, the mini version involves a shorter scar along the lower abdomen and does not require a scar around the umbilicus (belly button). However, there may be some residual excess skin above the umbilical area. The procedure follows similar principles to a full abdominoplasty, with the focus on muscle repair and skin tightening in the lower abdomen.
While the surgery is less extensive, the full recovery time is still approximately 6 weeks. During your consultation, Mr. Ho-Asjoe will discuss whether you are a suitable candidate for this surgery and help determine which option is best for your body and goals.
Aftercare and recovery
- Gentle Mobilisation: Patients can begin gentle movement during the first 4 weeks but should avoid strenuous activities.
- Supportive Garment: Wearing a supportive abdominal binder is recommended to aid recovery and minimise swelling.
- Showering: Patients are generally encouraged to shower after a few days, following the surgeon’s instructions.
- Full Recovery: Full recovery is expected around the 6-week mark, although some patients may feel discomfort when standing fully erect at first. This will gradually ease over time.
The aftercare process for a mini tummy tuck is similar to that of a full abdominoplasty. If you feel this procedure might be the right option for you, speak to your surgeon to explore the best approach for your body.
