Rhinoplasty (Nose Re-shaping)

Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping Surgery)

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape the nose and improve facial harmony. It can address concerns such as a dorsal hump, wide or bulbous tip, crookedness, or post-injury deformities. Each nose is unique, and Consultant Plastic Surgeon Mr. Ho-Asjoe tailors the procedure to suit your specific needs and facial proportions.

The patient may be unhappy with different aspects including deviation, dorsal hump, or large nose tip in any combination, or the patient may have experienced an injury to the nose.

It is important for the surgeon to understand the requirement of the patient instead of a standardised approach to all noses. The complexity of the surgery depends on the correction that needs to be made.

Rhinoplasty can be performed using either:

  • Closed Rhinoplasty – Incisions are made inside the nostrils with no visible scarring.
  • Open Rhinoplasty – An additional small incision is made on the columella (between the nostrils) for better access; this scar typically heals very well.

In some cases, cartilage may need to be grafted from other areas (like the ear or rib) to support reshaping. All options will be explained during your consultation.

Suitability for Rhinoplasty

Ideal for patients who are unhappy with the shape or function of their nose. Open communication and realistic expectations are key to achieving a satisfactory outcome.

Recovery and aftercare

  • Surgery Time: Typically 1–2 hours, longer for complex cases.
  • Swelling & Bruising: Common around the eyes and nose; subsides within 7–14 days.
  • Nasal Congestion: May last several weeks due to internal swelling. Avoid blowing your nose or inserting anything into it.
  • Follow-Up: Sutures and external splint removed at 7 days post-surgery.
  • Final Results: Swelling can take up to 3 months to fully settle.

Considering non-surgical Rhinoplasty?

For those not ready for surgery, non-surgical options (using dermal fillers) can be discussed during your consultation.

(Rhinoplasty)

RHINOSURGERY SURGERY TIME AND RECOVERY

Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two but complicated procedures may take longer.

The patient is likely to have bruises and swelling around the eye region in addition to the nasal area. Most of the bruising and swelling will settle in 7-14 days.  There will be swelling inside the nose and will affect the nasal airway until the swelling settles. The patient should not blow their nose or insert anything into the nasal cavity to improve airway.

The patient is requested to return to the clinic in 7 days after surgery for removal of sutures and the external nasal splint. The swelling will remain there and it can take up to 3 months before settling down.

If you are not ready to take the step towards Rhinoplasty surgery you can also discuss the option of Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty with Mr Ho-Asjoe during your consultation.

REVIEWS

"Mark Ho-Asjoe performed a complex rhinoplasty, to address a deviated septum of some 40 years and generally improve the look of my nose, in August 2019. Although still swollen I am very pleased with the result.

I had my operation at The Holly which was superb. From the initial consultation through to my post op review Mark and his team were highly professional and supportive. At the initial consultation Mark carefully listened to what I wanted and sensitively advised me what could and could not be achieved. I was then offered an operation date within a few weeks and all went very smoothly. Unlike some other surgeons Mark quotes fully inclusive prices for procedures which relieves any concerns around additional/hidden costs. I found Mark very approachable, considerate (even sorting out my pressure socks before the op) and with an excellent sense of humour. If I have a need for other procedures I will not hesitate to contact Mark." K Tait-Lane - Google 2020
